Lovesac Review: The Smart Buys (and What to Skip)

Lovesac’s smart buy is its newest cheap seat, the Snugg, not the famous Sactional. Here is what each line really costs, why you should never pay a non-sale price, and which upgrades to skip.

We may earn a commission if you buy through our links, once we join a brand's program. It never changes a call. How that works.

Smart Score3.2/5
Skip the upgrade
Skip StealthTech. A 4 Seats + 5 Sides Sactional with Sound + Charge lists at $8,915 against $5,665 without it, a $3,250 premium for built-in speakers.
Best time to buy
During a named sale only. In late October Lovesac’s deals page said Black Friday is coming, and its terms offer a 10% sign-up code and a one-time price adjustment within 7 days.

Lovesac sells modular couches that arrive in boxes, plus the oversized foam-filled Sacs it started with. Everything is built from parts you assemble, and almost every cover comes off for the washing machine.

Prices are high and fluid. A popular 4 Seats + 5 Sides Sactional lists at $5,665, the new Cush 3-Cushion Sofa at $7,600, and Lovesac’s own terms admit that its non-discounted prices are “our subjective opinion of the value” and may not be what it recently sold at. Our advice: start with Snugg, buy during a named promotion, keep the receipt date in mind for the 7-day price adjustment, and budget a weekend for assembly.

What to buy (and what not to)

01Smart buyBest for: Apartments and first Lovesacs

Snugg Sofa, 3-Cushion

$2,750 Driftwood Heathered Weave, square arms, standard foam, as configured in October.

A conventional-looking sofa with washable covers and hidden storage, at about half the price of a comparable Sactional.

Snugg is Lovesac’s simpler sofa line: fixed sizes rather than the endless Sactional grid, with hidden storage under the seats, three arm styles and machine-washable covers. The 3-cushion sofa measures 90 inches wide with square arms, 35.5 deep and 32 high, with a 22-inch seat depth. You can choose standard foam or the softer Lovesoft fill.

It averages 4.1 stars across 209 reviews, lower than the Sacs. Sorted lowest first, the complaints are about the work: ten or more FedEx boxes left outside, covers so tight that buyers strained their hands fitting them, a two-hour build that came apart when moved. One owner said the fabric pilled within five months. Several also called the standard foam firmer than expected.

Not so good

  • You unbox, assemble and fit tight covers yourself
  • Standard foam reads firm to many reviewers

Good

  • Machine-washable covers and storage under the seats
  • Ships free by parcel, often within about two weeks
  • Far cheaper entry point than a Sactional

The numbers

  • Size, square arms 90 x 35.5 x 32 inches
  • Seat depth 22 inches
  • Fill Standard Foam or Lovesoft
  • Storage hidden under the seats

Snugg Chair

from $1,250 Vivid Velvet. The Driftwood Heathered Weave version we configured was $1,450.

The single-seat Snugg, with hidden storage and an optional swivel base, and the cheapest way to try Lovesac’s covers.

The chair shares the sofa’s design: washable covers, a choice of arm styles and fills, and storage hidden in the base. Lovesac also offers a swivel base that adds 360-degree rotation without tools, which few boxed chairs do.

Price changes with the fabric, from $1,250 in Vivid Velvet to $1,450 in the heathered weave we checked, so pick the cover first and the color second. The weaknesses mirror the sofa’s. One reviewer who bought two chairs and a sofa called the chairs very firm and planned to swap to Lovesoft fill, and another set of two chairs and a loveseat arrived in ten or eleven boxes and took real effort to cover. At this price a chair is easier to return inside the 60-day trial than a sofa.

Not so good

  • Reviewers describe the standard-foam chair as very firm

Good

  • Optional tool-free swivel base
  • Same washable covers as the larger Snugg pieces

The numbers

  • Price range $1,250 to $1,450 by fabric
  • Options swivel base, three arm styles
  • Fill Standard Foam or Lovesoft
  • Storage hidden in the base

Sactionals 4 Seats + 5 Sides

$5,665 Midnight Navy Corded Velvet, standard fill; shown as shipping free in one to two weeks.

The modular sectional Lovesac is known for, endlessly reconfigurable and washable, and priced to be bought only on promotion.

Sactionals are built from two parts, Seats and Sides, joined by steel clamps. Each Seat can be turned 90 degrees to sit wide or deep for the same price, and you can add pieces, storage seats or recliners later. This four-seat configuration rates 4.26 from 8,926 reviews.

The lowest-rated reviews are pointed. Two October reviews describe asking for a new quote when a promotion grew from 25% to 40% off and finding the base prices had risen, wiping out most of the extra discount. Others report seat cushions that flattened within months, covers tight enough to cause blisters during assembly, and, on Trustpilot, connector shoes that did not sit flush. Get a written quote, compare it during the next event, and use the 7-day price adjustment if the price drops after you order.

Not so good

  • Reviewers report base prices rising when bigger promotions start
  • Hours of assembly, with very tight covers

Good

  • Seats rotate for wide or deep sitting at no extra cost
  • Expandable piece by piece over the years
  • Ships free, with washable covers

The numbers

  • Configuration 4 Seats + 5 Sides
  • Connection steel clamps, shoes and feet
  • Rating on the page 4.26 from 8,926 reviews
  • Shipping free, quoted at 1 to 2 weeks

04Good buyBest for: Movie nights and kids’ rooms

SuperSac

$1,325 Insert with Wombat Phur cover as configured; the CitySac starts the range at $875.

The original Lovesac idea, a huge shredded-foam Sac, in the middle size that most rooms can actually hold.

Sacs are filled with Lovesac’s shredded Durafoam and sold as an insert plus a removable cover. The builder runs from the CitySac at $875 to The BigOne at $1,650, and the SuperSac sits in the middle at $1,325 with the Wombat Phur cover we priced. Sacs average 4.5 stars from 5,023 reviews, the best score of any Lovesac line we checked.

The low reviews share one theme: fill. Buyers describe Sacs that arrived two-thirds full, a hole forming where someone sits, or a MovieSac that looked flat, and Lovesac’s replies usually point to fluffing or a warranty claim for extra Durafoam. Another buyer said their cover shed constantly. Sacs are covered by the 60-day home trial, so judge the fill early.

Not so good

  • Fill settles; some buyers needed extra Durafoam
  • One reviewer said their cover shed constantly

Good

  • Highest-rated Lovesac line, 4.5 from 5,023 reviews
  • Removable, swappable covers

The numbers

  • Fill shredded Durafoam
  • Range CitySac $875 to The BigOne $1,650
  • Cover removable, sold with the insert

Cush 3-Cushion Sofa

$7,600 Golden Taupe Plush Velvet; free White Glove delivery quoted at 6 to 8 weeks.

Lovesac’s newest and roomiest sofa, delivered and set up for free, at a price nothing in its range justifies yet.

Cush is Lovesac’s answer to its assembly complaints: a deeper, plusher sofa with Ultraloft fill, offered in four plush velvets, with White Glove delivery, assembly and packaging removal included. On other lines that service is an add-on, $599 on orders of $7,000 or more.

We pass for now. The 3-cushion sofa costs $7,600, more than a four-seat Sactional, and its page showed zero reviews in October, so there is no owner evidence on how Ultraloft fill holds its shape. Delivery was quoted at six to eight weeks, against one to two for parcel-shipped Sactionals. If you want Lovesac without the build, wait until Cush has a season of reviews and a first promotion behind it.

Not so good

  • No customer reviews on the page yet
  • Costs more than a four-seat Sactional

Good

  • Free White Glove delivery and assembly
  • Deepest, most lounge-style seat Lovesac makes

The numbers

  • Fill Ultraloft
  • Fabrics four Plush Velvet colors
  • Delivery free White Glove, 6 to 8 weeks

The review pile, summarized

On Lovesac’s site the Sactionals reviews average 4.3 from 16,910, Sacs 4.5 from 5,023, and Snugg 4.1 from 209. Trustpilot is far harsher: 1.6 out of 5 from 114 reviews, 67% one-star, on an unclaimed profile.

Sorted lowest first, the recurring complaints are assembly (ten to sixteen boxes, covers that bruise hands, eight-hour builds), deliveries that arrive partly or late, cushions and Sac fill that flatten, and pricing. Several October reviewers describe quotes that grew when a bigger percentage-off sale began. A separate cluster of September one-star reviews on Trustpilot came from people reacting to the CEO’s online remarks about assembly complaints, not from buyers, so read the dates. Positive reviews praise washable covers and fast parcel delivery.

Washable, modular seating with a generous 60-day trial and long frame warranties, dragged down by heavy self-assembly, list prices that rarely stick, and a 1.6 Trustpilot score.

Rivals worth a look

  • Burrow. Choose it instead if you want a modular sofa with a lower list price and a 25% code shown on each page; Trustpilot rated it 2.5 in October.
  • Home Reserve. Choose it instead if reputation weighs most; it rated 4.5 on Trustpilot in October against Lovesac’s 1.6.

Questions, answered

Do I have to assemble Lovesac furniture myself?

For Sactionals, Snugg and Sacs, yes, unless you pay for White Glove delivery, which Lovesac lists at $599 on orders of $7,000 or more. Standard shipping is free, but the carrier may leave the boxes at your door. Room of Choice delivery, from $199, brings boxes inside but leaves unpacking, assembly and covers to you. Only Cush includes White Glove for free.

Can I return a Lovesac couch?

Yes, within 60 days of receiving your complete order you can return eligible items for a full refund or exchange. Shipping and delivery fees are not refunded, returns go back by scheduled FedEx pickup or an approved carrier, and Lovesac asks for original packaging where possible. Custom covers, floor models and clearance items are final sale, so avoid those if you are unsure.

Does Lovesac price-match its own sales?

Partly. Its terms allow a one-time price adjustment within 7 days of ordering, which excludes floor models and clearance. If a bigger sale starts on day eight, you are out of luck, and several reviewers say quoted prices also changed between promotions. Lovesac also lists a 10% code for signing up to marketing emails and texts, which cannot be combined with other discounts.

Is StealthTech worth adding to a Sactional?

Only if you were going to buy a good surround system anyway. Lovesac’s own page lists a 4 Seats + 5 Sides with Sound + Charge at $8,915, against $5,665 for the same layout without it. Its covers and electronics carry shorter warranties than the frames, so the speakers will age faster than the couch around them.
