Zwilling Review 2026: What's Actually Worth Buying
Most cooks need two good knives, not sixteen. Zwilling’s two-piece Professional S set is the smart buy, the 40%-off Four Star block is the deal of the month, and the $1,100 Pro block is not.
We may earn a commission if you buy through our links, once we join a brand's program. It never changes a call. How that works.
- Skip the upgrade
- Skip the 16-piece Pro block at $1,099.99. Six steak knives and two extra kitchen knives cost about $800 more than the Four Star block on sale.
- Best time to buy
- October for knife blocks: the Four Star 8-piece showed 40% off. Zwilling’s in-person warehouse sales run through early December, but those purchases cannot be returned.

Zwilling, the Solingen knifemaker founded in 1731, sells its own Zwilling knives alongside Miyabi from Japan, Demeyere cookware and kitchen gadgets on one US store. The knife lines step up from stamped Gourmet through forged Four Star and Professional S to Pro, with Miyabi above.
Prices are split between a Standard Price and a frequent Sale Price, and the gap varies wildly: 11% off one knife, 40% off a block. The value case is simple. Two forged knives cover nearly every task, and the Professional S chef’s and paring pair costs less on sale than a Pro chef’s knife alone. Buy a block only when it is deeply discounted, and know that once a knife is used, Zwilling will not take it back.
What to buy (and what not to)
Professional S 2-pc Chef’s Set
$214.99 Standard price; the October sale price was $159.99, 26% off.
An 8-inch chef’s knife and a 4-inch paring knife, forged in Germany, for less than Zwilling charges for one Pro chef’s knife.
These are the two knives that do most of the work in any kitchen, from Zwilling’s long-running Professional S line: forged from one piece of high-carbon stainless steel, ice-hardened, with a three-rivet polymer handle on a full tang. Both are made in Germany. At the October sale price of $159.99, the pair cost $10 less than the Zwilling Pro 8-inch chef’s knife on its own.
The set has only 74 ratings, averaging 4.8, so there is less to go on than for the blocks. The weaker reviews are telling, though: a longtime owner said the new knives felt thinner and lighter than a 20-year-old set, one buyer found the knives loose in a plastic tray on arrival, and another thought the logo stamping looked different from the website photos.
Watch out for
- Some longtime owners find the new knives lighter than older ones
- No block or sheath included
Worth it for
- Covers chopping and detail work for one modest price
- Forged in Germany with a full tang
Specs we checked
- Includes 8-inch chef’s, 4-inch paring
- Construction forged, single piece of steel
- Country of origin Germany
- Care dishwasher-safe, hand wash recommended

Four Star 8-pc Knife Block Set
$499.99 Standard price; on sale for $299.99 in October, 40% off.
Zwilling’s bestselling knife line in a compact block, and the deepest discount in the range when we looked.
Four Star turns 50 this year, and Zwilling calls it its top-selling knife series worldwide. The block holds a 4-inch paring knife, a 5.5-inch prep knife, a 5-inch serrated utility knife, an 8-inch bread knife and an 8-inch chef’s knife, plus shears and a honing steel. Blades are forged from one piece and rated 57 on the Rockwell scale; handles now use at least 75% recycled plastic.
At 40% off it is a fair price for five forged knives. The complaints are about everything around them. One October reviewer warned that the birch block can damage the knives, another found the handles light and cheap-feeling, and a 2024 reviewer said the shears, block and steel were made in China despite the made-in-Germany box. The knives themselves are listed as made in Solingen.
Watch out for
- Reviewers criticize the block and the light handles
- Accessories may not share the knives’ German origin
Worth it for
- Five forged knives for about $60 each on sale
- Compact block with spare slots
Specs we checked
- Includes 5 knives, shears, honing steel, birch block
- Hardness 57 Rockwell
- Block 10 slots
- Country of origin Germany

MIYABI Kaizen II 8-inch Chef’s Knife
$189.99 Standard price; the October sale price was $169.99, the same as a Zwilling Pro chef’s knife.
A thin, hard, Damascus-clad chef’s knife made in Seki, Japan, sold on the same site and at the same sale price as Zwilling’s German flagship.
Kaizen II wraps an FC61 steel core in 48 layers of stainless Damascus, hardened to 61 on the Rockwell scale and hand-honed to between 9.5 and 12 degrees. It weighs 0.44 pounds with a D-shaped pakkawood handle. It has 776 ratings averaging 4.9.
That hardness is the trade-off: hard, thin edges are more prone to chipping, and the one-star reviews include a knife that chipped in normal use and a replacement that took two months to ship. Several buyers also received knives with scratches on the blade, one twice in a row. If you twist through squash or cut bone, the German Professional S chef’s knife is the safer tool.
Watch out for
- Thin, hard edge can chip under twisting or bone work
- Several reports of cosmetic scratches on arrival
Worth it for
- Very hard 61 Rockwell edge, honed to 9.5 to 12 degrees
- Light at 0.44 pounds
Specs we checked
- Hardness 60-62 HRC
- Steel FC61 core, 48 Damascus layers
- Blade length 7.87 inches
- Made in Seki, Japan

Fresh & Save Glass Vacuum Starter Set, 7-pc
$129.99
A rechargeable hand pump with two glass containers and four bags, and the most-reviewed product on Zwilling’s US site.
The set pairs a medium and a large borosilicate glass container with two small and two medium vacuum bags and a USB-rechargeable pump that stops on its own once the vacuum is set. Containers go in the dishwasher, the freezer and, without the lid, the oven. Zwilling claims food keeps up to five times longer; that is its figure, not ours.
It has 12,913 ratings averaging 4.8. The low ones are about seals: bags that let air back in and frost up, small punctures after a few uses, containers found unsealed after a trip, and one buyer whose new bags arrived with valve rings loose. The set is made in China, not Solingen. It is a good starter kit, but add more bags slowly until you see how yours hold.
Watch out for
- Bags and lids lose vacuum for some owners
- Made in China, unlike Zwilling’s knives
Worth it for
- Quiet rechargeable pump with automatic shut-off
- Glass bases are oven-safe without the lid
Specs we checked
- Includes 2 glass containers, 4 bags, rechargeable pump
- Container range 0°F to 356°F without lid
- Pump lithium-ion, USB charging
- Country of origin China

Gourmet 14-pc Knife Block Set
$399.99 Standard price; on sale for $349.99 in October, only 12% off.
Fourteen pieces of Zwilling’s stamped, lighter knife line, which in October cost more than the forged Four Star block.
Gourmet knives are precision-stamped rather than forged, which makes them lighter, though they keep a full tang, a triple-rivet handle and ice-hardened blades. This set is generous: seven kitchen knives from a 2.75-inch peeler to an 8-inch chef’s, four steak knives, shears, a 9-inch honing steel and a rubberwood block. It has 2,213 ratings averaging 4.9.
The problem in October was the price. At $349.99 it cost $50 more than the forged Four Star 8-piece block on sale. The low reviews mostly concern the block: oversized slots that let knives flop, a spare slot that looks like a missing knife, a block color that did not match the photo. One older review reported steak knives marked made in Spain. Wait for a deeper cut.
Watch out for
- Cost more than a forged Four Star block in October
- Loose, oversized block slots in several reviews
Worth it for
- Fourteen pieces, including four steak knives
- Lighter stamped blades suit quick, nimble prep
Specs we checked
- Includes 7 kitchen knives, 4 steak knives, shears, steel, block
- Construction precision-stamped
- Net weight 5.73 lb
- Country of origin Germany

Pro 16-pc Knife Block Set
$1,099.99
Every Pro knife most cooks could want in an acacia block, for more than three times the sale price of the Four Star block.
Zwilling Pro is the German flagship, with a curved bolster that supports a pinch grip. This block holds 3 and 4-inch paring knives, a 5-inch serrated utility, a 5.5-inch prep knife, a 7-inch hollow-edge santoku, an 8-inch bread knife, an 8-inch chef’s knife and six steak knives, with shears and a honing steel. It has 400 ratings averaging 4.9.
We pass because the money buys duplication, and quality control at this price should be flawless. Low reviews describe dinged handles out of the box, a steak knife with a different bolster that would not fit any slot, a block too small, and a buyer told to pay shipping to get a damaged chef’s knife replaced. The Professional S pair and the discounted Four Star block together cost less than half as much.
Watch out for
- Over $1,000 for many knives most cooks rarely use
- Handle dings and fit problems reported out of the box
Worth it for
- Complete Pro lineup with a pinch-grip bolster
- Six steak knives included
Specs we checked
- Includes 7 kitchen knives, 6 steak knives, shears, steel, block
- Block acacia
- Net weight 8.48 lb
- Country of origin Germany

Reading the one-star reviews
On Zwilling’s own site the ratings are superb: 4.9 across 2,808 ratings for the Pro chef’s knife and 4.8 across 12,913 for the Fresh & Save starter set. Trustpilot tells another story, rating Zwilling J.A. Henckels 2.1 out of 5, “Poor”, though that profile mixes buyers from several countries, including Canada, Australia and the UK.
The one-star themes overlap on both. Holiday orders that never shipped, or were cancelled as out of stock while the site still showed stock. Knives arriving chipped, bent or scratched. Warranty claims that demand many photos and, for some, paid shipping; one buyer’s shears broke on the second use and the claim was refused. Several Trustpilot reviewers describe a slow refund process for the recalled Enfinigy electric kettles, which Zwilling’s US recall page says covers 113,439 units. The knives themselves rarely draw complaints.

German-forged knives with strong on-site ratings, pulled down by unused-only returns you pay to ship, holiday-season delivery failures and a Trustpilot profile full of warranty and recall frustration.

Things people ask
Is everything Zwilling sells made in Germany?
No. The Pro, Four Star, Gourmet and Professional S knives we looked at list Germany as country of origin, but Miyabi knives are made in Seki, Japan, and the Fresh & Save set lists China. A few reviewers also say accessories in German-made knife sets, such as shears or steak knives, were made elsewhere, so check the box if origin matters to you.
Can I return a Zwilling knife after using it?
No. Zwilling accepts returns within 60 days of delivery only for unused items in their original condition and packaging, with prior authorization. Mail returns are at your expense; returning to a Zwilling store costs nothing. Engraved, clearance, discontinued, factory-second and warehouse-sale items cannot be returned at all. A defect after use goes through the warranty instead.
How does Zwilling’s lifetime warranty work?
It covers defects in material and workmanship for the original US purchaser with proof of purchase. Zwilling replaces rather than repairs, and may substitute a comparable item if yours is discontinued. The item you send in is recycled and not returned, even if you decline the replacement. Normal wear and tear is excluded, and claims go through the online support center, not retail stores.
What is the difference between Pro, Four Star and Gourmet?
Gourmet knives are stamped from sheet steel, so they are lighter and cheaper. Four Star and Pro are forged from a single piece, with a bolster; Four Star is rated 57 Rockwell, Pro 55 to 58. Pro adds a curved bolster designed for a pinch grip and costs more. Professional S sits between them, forged with a traditional three-rivet handle.
