Nespresso Review 2026: Which Coffee Machines Are Worth the Money
Nespresso’s cheapest Vertuo is its best-reviewed one, and its milk machines are its worst. Here is what to buy, why refurbished is barely cheaper this fall, and which price never to pay.
We may earn a commission if you buy through our links, once we join a brand's program. It never changes a call. How that works.
- Skip the upgrade
- Skip the $699.99 Vertuo Creatista. It brews the same Vertuo capsules as a $109.99 Pop+, and its own reviews average 3.8 stars, with leaks the top complaint.
- Best time to buy
- Now, or any time a banner is up. In October the site advertised Vertuo Pop+ from $99 and up to 40% off select machines, and refurbished Vertuo Next units from $94.

Nespresso makes two capsule systems that do not share pods. Original machines brew espresso-sized shots from small capsules; Vertuo machines read a barcode on a larger, domed capsule and brew anything from an espresso to a carafe. The machines are the cheap part. Nespresso discounts them hard, then earns its money on capsules you can only buy from a short list of sellers.
That makes the buying advice simple. Choose the system first, buy the simplest machine in it, and wait for a banner sale, which in October meant a Vertuo Pop+ at well below list. The expensive milk machines are where the reviews fall apart, so a cheap machine plus a separate frother is usually the smarter pairing.
What to buy (and what not to)
Vertuo Pop+ Deluxe
$149.99 Titan finish. On sale at $109.99 in October; the site banner advertised Pop+ models from $99.
Nespresso’s smallest Vertuo, with the larger 37-ounce tank of the Deluxe trim, at a price that undercuts most drip machines on sale.
The Pop+ brews five Vertuo sizes, from a 1.35-ounce espresso to a 12-ounce XL, hot or over ice, with a 30-second heat-up and a two-minute auto-off. The Deluxe version adds chrome accents and a 37-ounce removable tank. It has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for cup settings and maintenance alerts.
Its reviews are the best of any new Vertuo here: 4.5 out of 5 from 2,386 owners. The one-star minority is consistent, though. Owners describe red blinking lights within weeks, leaks around the capsule holder, a light body that slides when you close the lid, and a descaling routine one reviewer called comically arbitrary. Several say support offered a discount on a new machine rather than a free replacement. It skips the 18-ounce carafe size, so if you brew for two, look at the Vertuo Next.
Why it's smart
- Best owner rating among the new Vertuo machines we compared
- Five sizes, hot or over ice, in a small footprint
The catch
- No 18-ounce carafe size
- Red-light faults and support offering discounts, not swaps
Specs we checked
- Cup sizes 1.35 to 12 oz, five in all
- Water tank 37 fl oz
- Power 1,500W
- Dimensions 8.6 x 14 x 10.4 in

RELOVE Vertuo Next Premium
$119.99 Black Chrome. On sale at $103.19 in October, while a new Vertuo Next was $125.99.
A refurbished Vertuo Next with the same one-year warranty as a new machine, and the best rating of any machine we read.
RELOVE machines are returns that Nespresso says it inspects, repairs if needed, cleans, tests and repackages, and they carry the same one-year warranty as new. This Vertuo Next brews seven sizes including the 12-ounce carafe setting, fits tall travel mugs, and takes up only 5.5 inches of width.
The owner rating is 4.8 from 1,587 reviews, far above the 4.0 that the new Vertuo Next shows across 7,844. The timing is the catch: in October the new Navy Vertuo Next was on sale for $125.99, only about $23 more than this refurb. At that gap a new machine is worth considering. The few one-star refurb reviews describe a unit dead on arrival with red blinking lights and another that failed at about a year, the same faults that dog the new Vertuo Next.
Why it's smart
- Same one-year warranty as a new machine
- Brews the carafe size the Pop+ lacks
The catch
- Only about $23 below a new Vertuo Next on sale
- Shares the Next’s red-light fault complaints
Specs we checked
- Cup sizes seven, 0.84 oz to carafe
- Water tank 37 fl oz
- Warranty 1 year
- Weight 8.8 lb

Essenza Mini
$189.99 Intense Grey. No sale price shown in October.
The smallest Original-line machine: two programmable buttons, espresso and lungo, in a body 3.3 inches wide.
If you drink espresso and nothing larger, the Original system is the one to choose, and the Essenza Mini is its simplest door in. It weighs 5 pounds, uses a 19-bar pump, holds 20.3 ounces of water and six used capsules, and switches itself off after nine minutes. There are two buttons: espresso at 1.35 ounces and lungo at 3.75.
Owners rate it 4.6 out of 5 across 964 reviews. The low end describes plastic parts that feel cheap, shots that come out weak or not hot enough, and machines that leak or stop pulling water, some after about a year. One buyer said Nespresso would not take it back. The small tank also means refilling every few drinks. The bigger question is price: with no sale running, it costs more than a discounted Vertuo Pop+.
Why it's smart
- Tiny 3.3-inch-wide footprint
- Simple two-button operation
The catch
- Small 20.3-ounce tank and six-capsule bin
- Some owners report weak, lukewarm shots
Specs we checked
- Cup sizes espresso 1.35 oz, lungo 3.75 oz
- Pressure 19 bar
- Water tank 20.3 oz
- Weight 5 lb

CitiZ
$319.99 White. No sale price shown in October.
A well-reviewed Original-line machine that brews the same two sizes as the Essenza Mini for $130 more.
The CitiZ is the Original machine people buy for the styling: a retro body, a 33-ounce tank, room for nine to eleven used capsules and a 25-second heat-up. It brews espresso and a 3.5-ounce lungo, nothing else, and carries a one-year warranty.
Owners like it, rating it 4.7 out of 5 across 777 reviews. The negative reviews are few but pointed: pumps that quit at 18 months to three years, and a support answer, more than once, of a discount on a new machine rather than a repair. One owner found it loud enough to wake the house. Since the cup sizes match the Essenza Mini, the extra money buys a bigger tank and the look. Wait until a sale narrows that gap.
Why it's smart
- Larger 33-ounce tank than the Essenza Mini
- Strong owner rating of 4.7 out of 5
The catch
- Same two cup sizes as a far cheaper machine
- Pump failures reported just outside warranty
Specs we checked
- Cup sizes espresso 1.35 oz, lungo 3.5 oz
- Water tank 33 fl oz
- Heat-up 25 seconds
- Warranty 1 year

Vertuo Lattissima
$529.99 Matte Black & Glossy. No sale price shown in October.
A Vertuo with a built-in milk system and a two-year warranty, held back by a long run of leak complaints.
The Vertuo Lattissima adds a 16-ounce milk container and three milk settings to the Vertuo brewer, so cappuccinos and latte macchiatos happen at one button. It brews six coffee sizes up to an 18-ounce carafe, holds 54 ounces of water and, unusually for Nespresso in the US, its page lists a two-year warranty.
The reviews are the problem. It averages 3.4 out of 5, and 43 of its 146 reviews are one-star. The pattern repeats: leaks that grow until owners keep a towel under the machine, a milk canister the machine stops recognizing, milk buttons that fail, and a pod eject that jams. Some owners are on their second unit. If you want it, wait for a sale and use the 30-day return window hard.
Why it's smart
- Lattes and cappuccinos at one touch
- Two-year warranty listed on the product page
The catch
- Nearly a third of reviews are one-star
- Recurring leak complaints
Specs we checked
- Milk container 16 oz
- Water tank 54 oz
- Warranty 2 years
- Weight 13 lb

Vertuo Creatista
$699.99 Stainless Steel. No sale price shown in October.
Nespresso’s priciest Vertuo, with an automatic steam wand, and reviews that do not justify the price.
The Creatista pairs a Vertuo brewer with a steam wand and a milk jug, with three temperature and three texture levels, so you can pour latte art without learning a manual wand. It has a 2-liter tank, brews six coffee sizes and heats milk in about three seconds.
We pass because of what owners report. It averages 3.8 out of 5 across 349 reviews, with 66 at one star, and the recurring complaint is leaking. One owner on a third replacement says replacements come with only six months of warranty, which matches the US warranty terms: a replacement is covered for the rest of the original period or six months, whichever is longer. Others describe descaling cycles that stop halfway. A Pop+ with a separate frother costs far less.
Why it's smart
- Automatic steam wand with adjustable texture
- Large 2-liter water tank
The catch
- Leak complaints dominate the one-star reviews
- Costs more than six times a Pop+ on sale
Specs we checked
- Water tank 2 L
- Milk settings 3 temperatures, 3 textures
- Milk heat-up 3 seconds
- Dimensions 9.6 x 16.4 x 12.7 in

The review pile, summarized
Nespresso’s own reviews are the clearest guide, because its Trustpilot page showed a 1.5 “Bad” rating built on reviews that stopped in early 2022.
On-site, the cheap machines score well: the Vertuo Pop+ Deluxe holds 4.5 out of 5 from 2,386 reviews and the refurbished Vertuo Next 4.8 from 1,587. The milk machines are another story. The Vertuo Lattissima sits at 3.4 and the Creatista at 3.8, with leaks the dominant complaint.
Across models, the one-star reviews tell one story: a red blinking light, a long troubleshooting call or video session, and an offer of a discount on a new machine instead of a free fix. Several reviewers mention the discount was 30% to 35%. Owners who did get replacements sometimes report a second failure within months.
Where the 3.5 comes from
| Part | Score | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Product | 3.5 | 35% |
| Value | 3.8 | 30% |
| Policies | 2.9 | 20% |
| Buying experience | 3.2 | 15% |
| Smart Score | 3.5/5 | |
The basic machines are cheap on sale and well rated, but the one-year US warranty, leak complaints on the milk models and discount-instead-of-repair support drag the score down.
Rivals worth a look
- Keurig. Choose it instead if you want the widest choice of cheap pods from many brands.
- Breville. Choose it instead if you want a real espresso machine with a grinder and no capsules.
- Cosori. Choose it instead if you would rather brew pour-over with a gooseneck kettle than buy pods.
Quick questions
Should I choose Vertuo or Original?
Choose by what you drink. Original machines make espresso and lungo shots from small capsules, which suits espresso drinkers. Vertuo machines read a barcode on each capsule and brew sizes from an espresso up to a 12-ounce XL or 18-ounce carafe, which suits people who want a mug of coffee. The two capsule formats are not interchangeable, so the machine you buy decides the capsules you buy for years.
Is a refurbished RELOVE machine worth it?
Sometimes. Nespresso says RELOVE machines are inspected, repaired if needed, cleaned and tested, and they carry the same one-year warranty as new. Owners rate the refurbished Vertuo Next higher than the new one. But in October a new Vertuo Next on sale cost only about $23 more than the refurbished Premium, so compare both prices on the day you buy.
What happens if my machine breaks after a year?
The US warranty covers one year from purchase or delivery on most machines, and calcium deposits and descaling problems are excluded. Out of warranty, many one-star reviewers say support offered a discount on a new machine rather than a repair. Descale on schedule, register the machine and keep proof of purchase, because Nespresso asks for it.
Can I return a Nespresso machine I bought elsewhere?
Not to Nespresso. Its returns page says machines bought from Nespresso can come back within 30 days of receipt, in original condition and packaging with invoices, but machines from a store or another website must go back where they were bought. Warranty claims are a separate matter and go through Nespresso’s support lines either way.
