Wild One Review: The Dog Gear Buys to Buy in 2026

Wild One’s walk gear is good-looking and fairly priced piece by piece, but the smart money goes on one kit that saves $7 and clears the $90 free-shipping line. Here is what to skip.

We may earn a commission if you buy through our links, once we join a brand's program. It never changes a call. How that works.

Smart Score3.1/5
Skip the upgrade
Skip the $48 Cushioned Harness if your dog hates things over its head; the $35 Step-In does the job, though it runs a size smaller.
Best time to buy
Any time you can reach $90, the free-shipping threshold. We saw no sitewide sale in October; the only standing discount is the walk kits, which shave a few dollars off.

Wild One is a direct-to-consumer pet brand that sells harnesses, leashes, collars, bowls and a carrier in muted colors and bright brights, mostly through its own site. Prices are in boutique territory rather than outrageous: a harness is $35 to $48, a leash $30 to $48.

The catch is in the policies. Shipping is free only from $90, returns are for unused items within 30 days, and unless you paid for the optional Shipping Protection, the cost of the return label is deducted from your refund. That makes the bundled walk kits the obvious play. The Cushioned Harness and Hands-Free Rope Leash kit costs $98, $7 less than buying the three pieces separately, and it is the one kit that clears $90 on its own. Measure your dog first, because fit is the top complaint.

Cushioned Harness + Hands-Free Rope Leash Walk Kit

$98 Wild One shows a $105 compare price, the sum of the three items bought separately.

Wild One’s best harness, its hands-free leash and a poop bag carrier, for $7 less than separately and over the free-shipping line.

The kit bundles the $48 Cushioned Harness, the $48 Hands-Free Rope Leash and a $9 Poop Bag Carrier for $98. That is a small saving, but the bigger one is shipping: $98 clears Wild One’s $90 threshold, while the $72 Step-In kit does not, and paying for shipping on that one cancels its discount.

The usual caveats apply twice. Harness fit is the issue owners discuss most, and a carefully read size chart matters more than the color. The leash is hand-wash only and rated for dogs up to 80 pounds, and the kit page calls it 3-in-1 while the leash’s own page says 4-in-1, so do not buy it expecting a feature the other page promises. Returns must be unused, so try the harness on indoors first.

Good

  • $7 cheaper than the same three items bought separately
  • Clears the $90 free-shipping threshold by itself

Not so good

  • Leash is hand-wash only and rated to 80 pounds
  • Harness fit needs careful measuring, and used items cannot be returned

Specs we checked

  • Includes harness, rope leash, poop bag carrier
  • Harness sizes XS to L, chest 13 to 38 inches
  • Leash length 4.3 to 8.5 feet
  • Leash limit dogs up to 80 lb

02Good buyBest for: Pullers and all-day wear

Cushioned Dog Harness

$48 Same price in every color and size we checked.

A neoprene harness with three leash points and two quick-release buckles, and the most reviewed product on the site.

Wild One’s top harness uses a soft double-layer neoprene body with woven nylon straps, adjustable at the neck, chest and back, and quick-release buckles at the neck and chest. It has three leash points: front for pullers, and upper and lower back for relaxed walkers.

It is popular, with 1,213 reviews averaging 4.5 when we read the page, and it is also the product where unhappiness shows up most. Sixty-eight of those reviews are one or two stars and 117 are three, and fit is one of the topics reviewers discuss most. Sizes stop at a 38-inch chest, so giant breeds are out, and Wild One’s own advice is to size up between sizes. We could not sort the reviews lowest first: the site’s own Lowest Rating filter returned no reviews in October.

Good

  • Three leash attachment points, including front clip for pullers
  • Quick-release buckles at neck and chest

Not so good

  • Fit is the most-discussed problem; 185 reviews are three stars or lower
  • Largest size fits a chest up to 38 inches

Specs we checked

  • Sizes XS to L, chest 13 to 38 inches
  • Leash points front, upper back, lower back
  • Materials stretch poly, nylon straps
  • Hardware coated carbon steel D-rings

03Good buyBest for: Dogs who hate head-on gear

Step-In Dog Harness

$35 One price across colors; Black in size S was out of stock when we checked.

A lighter, cheaper harness the dog steps into, with two leash points and a reflective color option.

The Step-In is the budget harness, $13 below the Cushioned model. The dog steps into it instead of having it pulled over its head, and it has a cushioned mesh chest panel and two leash points: chest for pullers, back for relaxed walkers. It comes in three sizes covering an 11 to 35-inch chest, and it is machine washable.

Read two notes on the page before ordering. Wild One says it runs smaller than the Cushioned Harness and to size up between sizes. It also warns that dye from the brighter colors may transfer to light coats and suggests hand-washing it before first use. Reviews are few, 61 when we read them, with four at two or three stars, and one happy owner still disliked the visible branding.

Good

  • Nothing goes over the dog’s head
  • Machine washable, unlike the rope leash

Not so good

  • Runs smaller than the Cushioned Harness
  • Bright dyes may transfer to light-colored coats

Specs we checked

  • Sizes S, M, L, chest 11 to 35 inches
  • Leash points chest and back
  • Materials elastic poly neoprene, nylon webbing
  • Care machine wash cold, no detergent

04Good buyBest for: Runners and stroller walks

Hands-Free Rope Dog Leash

$48 Costs $18 more than Wild One’s $30 Lightweight Dog Leash.

An adjustable rope leash you can wear around your waist or across your chest, or hold like a normal lead.

The rope leash adjusts from 4.3 to 8.5 feet through a metal slider, and it can be worn around the waist or crossbody, or held by the handle as a short or long lead. It is polyester rope with zinc alloy hardware and silicone parts. The visible reviews praise how it feels in the hand and the freedom of wearing it.

It is also $18 dearer than the Lightweight Dog Leash, and it has limits worth knowing. Wild One rates it for dogs up to 80 pounds and says not to machine wash it: hand wash, rinse and air dry it uncoiled. Its review count is small, 39 when we read it, and four of those are two or three stars. If you only ever hold the leash, the cheaper nylon one is the better buy.

Good

  • Wear it at the waist, crossbody or by hand
  • Adjusts from 4.3 to 8.5 feet

Not so good

  • Hand-wash only, never the machine
  • Not rated for dogs over 80 pounds

Specs we checked

  • Length 4.3 to 8.5 feet
  • Limit dogs up to 80 lb
  • Materials polyester rope, zinc alloy hardware
  • Care hand wash, do not machine wash

Waterproof Dog Collar

$35 Same price in every size from XS to XL.

A coated nylon collar that wipes clean and resists smells, in five sizes up to a 23-inch neck.

This is a flat collar made from flex-poly coated nylon with a zinc alloy buckle and a coated steel D-ring. Wild One says it repels water, dirt and odor, and it wipes clean with soap and water. Sizes run from XS (7 to 10-inch neck, half-inch strap) to XL (18 to 23 inches, one-inch strap).

With 602 reviews and only a small share below four stars, it is one of the safer buys here. The recurring niggle is the tail. One reviewer of this collar says the loose end sticks out on the smallest setting until you add a keeper loop, and an older Trustpilot complaint about a Wild One XL collar made the same point more angrily. At $35 it costs more than plain nylon collars, which is the price of the waterproof coating.

Good

  • Wipes clean and resists water and odor
  • Five sizes up to a 23-inch neck

Not so good

  • Loose strap end can stick out on small settings

Specs we checked

  • Sizes XS to XL, neck 7 to 23 inches
  • Strap width 1/2 to 1 inch by size
  • Material flex-poly coated nylon
  • Buckle zinc alloy

Travel Carrier

$145 Restocked for holiday travel, per the homepage in October 2026.

An under-seat airline carrier with mesh walls and a fold-out bed, but only for dogs up to 16 pounds.

The carrier is a neoprene-sided bag with mesh panels, a shoulder strap that doubles as a leash and an interior cushion that unfolds into a travel bed. It measures 17.5 by 11 by 10 inches, weighs 3.75 pounds, and Wild One says it complies with most airline pet rules, while telling you to check your airline first.

The weight limit is the whole story. It is meant for dogs up to 16 pounds and is not recommended for cats, and a Trustpilot reviewer with a 15-pound dog said it was really made for tiny ones. The carrier itself is hand-wash only; just the mat goes in the machine. Of 340 reviews, 243 are five stars. Measure your dog lying down before you spend $145.

Good

  • Mesh walls and a fold-out travel bed
  • Strap doubles as a leash

Not so good

  • Only for dogs up to 16 pounds, and snug near that limit
  • Carrier body is hand-wash only

Specs we checked

  • Dimensions 17.5 x 11 x 10 inches
  • Dog weight limit 16 lb
  • Carrier weight 3.75 lb
  • Outer polyester-spandex neoprene

Treat Pouch

$44 One price for every color.

A recycled-knit fanny pack with a poop bag dispenser, well liked and still a lot of money for a treat bag.

The Treat Pouch is Wild One’s first wearable for people: a recycled knit body made from plastic bottles, compartments for your phone and keys as well as treats, a built-in poop bag dispenser, and a strap that extends to 39 inches for waist or crossbody wear. It measures 8.63 by 6.25 inches.

Owners like it; 96% of 273 reviewers would recommend it. Our pass is about value. At $44 it costs nearly as much as the Cushioned Harness, it is spot-clean only, which matters for a bag that holds treats, and one reviewer who walks at night wished it had reflective fabric. Unless the matching look matters to you, a basic treat pouch and the $9 Poop Bag Carrier do the same job.

Good

  • Holds phone, keys, treats and poop bags
  • Strap converts between waist and crossbody

Not so good

  • $44 for a treat bag, and spot-clean only
  • No reflective fabric for night walks

Specs we checked

  • Size 8.63 x 6.25 x 0.75 inches
  • Strap extends to 39 inches
  • Body recycled polyester knit
  • Care spot-clean only

What buyers complain about

On its own site Wild One looks beloved: the Cushioned Dog Harness showed 1,213 reviews averaging 4.5, and the Waterproof Dog Collar 602 reviews with only a small share below four stars. But the site’s own Lowest Rating filter returned no reviews in October, so the critical reviews are hard to read.

Trustpilot is thin and unhappy, rating Wild One 2.3 out of 5, “Poor”, from a handful of reviews. The most recent, from October 2026, describes a harness that did not fit, no phone line, unanswered emails and a return label the buyer had to pay for. Older reviews complain about a collar tail with nowhere to tuck, international customers refused exchanges, a carrier too small for a 15-pound dog, and a collar and tag that wore quickly. The pattern fits the policy pages: buy the size carefully, because sending things back is on you.

Things people ask

Can I return a Wild One harness if it does not fit?

Yes, within 30 days of delivery, as long as it has only been tried on. Anything used outdoors, soiled or chewed is not eligible. Returns start in Wild One’s online portal, and unless you bought Shipping Protection at checkout, the return label cost is deducted from your refund. Original shipping is not refunded unless the item was wrong or defective.

Does Wild One offer free shipping?

Only on US orders of $90 or more, including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Below that, shipping is calculated at checkout. Ground delivery takes 5 to 9 business days and expedited 2 to 4. International orders never ship free, and import fees apply. The $98 Cushioned Harness and Rope Leash kit clears the threshold by itself.

What does the Wild One warranty cover?

Wild One offers a one-year warranty against manufacturer defects, claimed through a form on its site. It says chewing is not normal wear and tear or a defect, so a chewed leash or harness is not covered, although its FAQ invites you to email anyway. Dirty or dog-damaged items cannot be returned or exchanged.

Which Wild One harness size should I buy?

Measure your dog’s neck and chest with a soft tape, then compare with the size chart for that exact harness, because the Step-In runs smaller than the Cushioned Harness. Wild One recommends sizing up between sizes, and adding a little room for puppies and thick coats. Since used items cannot be returned, try it on indoors before the first walk.
