Is Abercrombie & Fitch Worth It? 2026 Review

Abercrombie’s jeans and Sloane pants earn their prices, but rarely at list. In late October an online event took up to 25% off almost everything. Here is what to buy, and the wool upgrade to skip.

We may earn a commission if you buy through our links, once we join a brand's program. It never changes a call. How that works.

Smart Score3.7/5
Skip the upgrade
Skip the wool-blend Sloane at $110 for now. It costs $20 more than the 8,000-review original, has two reviews so far, and skips the tumble dryer.

Abercrombie & Fitch’s current range is built around fit: jeans in several rises and leg shapes, a Curve Love version of most women’s styles with extra room at the hip and thigh, and tailored pants that have racked up thousands of reviews. Jeans list at $80 to $100, pants around $90, outerwear well above that.

Those are full prices, and the site gives you plenty of reasons not to pay them. When we read it, an online-only event took up to 25% off almost everything and pushed many jeans to $64 or $72. Buy the denim and the original Sloane pant on a sale, return in a store to avoid the $7 mail fee, and let the newer wool pieces build a review record first.

The 6 we looked at

01Smart buyBest for: Curvier hips and thighs

Curve Love High Rise 90s Straight Jean

$90 Medium wash. During the late-October online event it was $72.

A high-rise straight jean cut with two extra inches at the hip and thigh, the fit A&F built its denim comeback on.

Curve Love is Abercrombie’s version of most women’s jeans with an extra 2 inches through the hip and thigh, meant to stop the waist gap that standard cuts leave on curvier figures. This 90s Straight has a 10.5-inch high rise, fits at the waist and hip, eases through the thigh and drops into a straight, full-length leg. The body is 99% cotton and 1% elastane, and 386 reviews average 4.7.

The one-star reviews show that Curve Love does not fit every curve. Some buyers say this style runs small and would not pass a 40-inch hip in their usual size; others found the denim stiff, with a waist gap still present. One buyer warns the dye bled heavily. Wash it inside out and alone before wearing.

Watch out for

  • Some buyers say this style runs small at the hip
  • Stiff out of the bag; dark washes can bleed

Worth it for

  • Extra 2 inches at hip and thigh, waist stays fitted
  • Nearly all-cotton denim, 4.7 from 386 reviews

From the product page

  • Material 99% cotton, 1% elastane
  • Rise 10.5 inches
  • Fit extra 2 inches at hip and thigh
  • Leg straight, full length

02Good buyBest for: Men wanting a tapered straight

90s Straight Jean

$80 Dark wash. During the late-October online event it was $64.

A men’s straight jean in vintage stretch denim that tapers from the knee, with more than 3,300 reviews behind it.

The men’s 90s Straight sits straight through the thigh and tapers from the knee down, cut from what A&F calls its Vintage Stretch fabric for a broken-in feel. The dark wash is 99% cotton and 1% elastane. It is one of the most-reviewed jeans on the site, with 3,351 reviews averaging 4.7.

Read the one-star reviews and a pattern appears: the name oversells the leg. Several buyers expected a loose 90s cut and got something they describe as tapered or close to skinny through the thigh, and one says inseams vary by up to 2 inches between colors in the same size. Another had it shrink an inch in length after a cold wash and low tumble dry. If you have bigger thighs, look at the Athletic fits instead.

Watch out for

  • Tapered leg, not a loose 90s cut
  • Inseam and fit vary between colors, per reviews

Worth it for

  • 4.7 average from more than 3,300 reviews
  • Vintage stretch denim for an easy first wear

From the product page

  • Material 99% cotton, 1% elastane
  • Fit straight thigh, tapered from knee
  • Care machine wash cold, wash before wear

03Good buyBest for: Office pants that feel easy

A&F Sloane Tailored Wide Leg Pant

$90 During the late-October online event it was $72.

A&F’s signature ultra-high-rise pleated trouser, and the most-reviewed item we found on the site.

The Sloane is an ultra-high-rise wide-leg trouser with pleats, a working fly and pockets, and a partly elastic waistband that makes it more forgiving than most tailored pants. This version uses what A&F calls an everyday menswear fabric: 80% polyester, 16% viscose and 4% elastane. With 8,146 reviews averaging 4.7, no other product we found on the site has more.

The lowest-rated reviews focus on length and finish. Several petite buyers say the Short length came out like a Regular, others found the leg too wide or boxy, and a few report hems unravelling or buttons loose on arrival. One reviewer calls the crepe-like fabric cheap-looking. Order your length carefully, since there are short, regular and long options.

Watch out for

  • Short lengths run long for some petite buyers
  • Reports of hems coming undone

Worth it for

  • 4.7 average from more than 8,000 reviews
  • Partly elastic waist for an easier fit
  • Available in Curve Love and multiple lengths

From the product page

  • Fabric 80% polyester, 16% viscose, 4% elastane
  • Rise ultra-high
  • Leg tailored wide leg with pleats

04Wait for a saleBest for: Warmer work trousers

A&F Sloane Wool-Blend Tailored Wide Leg Pant

$110 During the late-October online event it was $93.50.

The same Sloane cut in a half-wool fabric with a viscose lining, newly listed and nearly unreviewed.

This is the Sloane shape in a wool blend: 50% wool, 25% viscose and 25% polyester, with a full viscose lining and an interior elastic waistband. It should be warmer and drape better than the polyester original, and the first two reviewers say exactly that.

Two reviews are not a track record, though, and the care label asks more of you: no ironing and no tumble drying. At $110 it costs $20 more than the original Sloane, whose 8,000-plus reviews already tell you how the cut fits. If you love the original and want a winter version, wait for an event and buy it then.

Watch out for

  • Only two reviews so far
  • No ironing or tumble drying

Worth it for

  • Half wool with a full viscose lining
  • Same proven Sloane cut

From the product page

  • Fabric 50% wool, 25% viscose, 25% polyester
  • Lining 100% viscose
  • Waist interior elastic waistband

05Good buyBest for: A light men’s wool layer

100% Merino Wool Crew Sweater

$85 During the late-October online event it was $72.25.

A plain merino crewneck from A&F’s Signature Collection, light enough to wear under a jacket.

Part of A&F’s Signature Collection of staples, this men’s crewneck is knitted from 100% merino wool with banded hem and cuffs. Merino is fine and soft, and it is usually a better buy than a cotton-acrylic blend at the same price. The fit is described by buyers as slightly oversized.

There are only six reviews so far, averaging 4.7, and half of them use the same words: a little thin. That is the trade-off of a lightweight merino knit, and it makes this a layering piece rather than a winter sweater on its own. At $85 list it is fairly priced for pure merino; at the event price it is a good buy.

Watch out for

  • Several reviewers call it a little thin
  • Only six reviews so far

Worth it for

  • 100% merino wool at under $100
  • Slightly relaxed fit that layers well

From the product page

  • Material 100% merino wool
  • Neckline crew
  • Trim banded hem and cuffs

06Wait for a saleBest for: A classic men’s winter coat

Wool-Blend Double-Breasted Peacoat

$190 During the late-October online event it was $161.50.

A mid-length men’s peacoat in recycled wool blend with a quilted lining, new this season and still unreviewed.

This is a classic double-breasted peacoat cut to mid-body length, with welt pockets, an interior chest pocket and a quilted lining. The shell is 52% recycled wool, 42% polyester and 6% other fibers, over a polyester lining and recycled polyester fill, so it is built for warmth rather than heirloom tailoring.

The weakness is the unknown. The coat is new, had no customer reviews when we read the page, and is dry clean only. At $190 list it costs about what a mainstream department-store wool coat does, so there is no reason to pay full price for an untested one. Wait for a bigger event, and buy early enough to return it within 30 days if the shoulders are wrong.

Watch out for

  • No customer reviews yet
  • Dry clean only, and nearly half synthetic

Worth it for

  • Quilted lining and fill for extra warmth
  • Interior chest pocket

From the product page

  • Shell 52% recycled wool, 42% polyester, 6% other
  • Fill 100% recycled polyester
  • Length mid-body
  • Care professional dry clean

The review pile, summarized

On Abercrombie’s own pages, the core styles are well liked: the Sloane pant averages 4.7 from more than 8,000 reviews and the men’s 90s Straight Jean 4.7 from more than 3,300. Trustpilot is far harsher, rating Abercrombie & Fitch 1.8 out of 5, “Poor”, on a profile that mixes US and European buyers.

The Trustpilot complaints are about service, not jeans: refund links that do not work, long holds on the phone, promised fixes that did not happen, and one fragrance buyer who received a scentless bottle. A few reviewers praise specific store staff.

On the product pages, the low ratings are mostly about fit. Buyers say sizing and inseams vary between colors of the same style, Curve Love does not suit every figure, and dark denim can bleed. Exchanges are free, so the cheapest fix is a store visit.

FAQ

How do I avoid Abercrombie’s $7 return fee?

Return in any Abercrombie & Fitch or abercrombie kids store in the US, which is free, or start a mail return and choose an e-gift card refund instead of your original payment method, which waives the $7 fee. Exchanges are always free. You have 30 days from the later of the estimated or actual delivery date, and VIP myAbercrombie members get 60.

What is Curve Love at Abercrombie?

Curve Love is a version of most women’s jeans and pants cut with an extra 2 inches through the hip and thigh, aimed at people whose waist is smaller relative to their hips. It costs the same as the standard cut. Reviews show it does not solve every fit problem, so compare your hip measurement with the size guide.

When is Abercrombie’s holiday return window?

Items bought between November 1 and December 31 can be returned for a full refund to the original payment method through January 31 of the following year, as long as you have the receipt, invoice or order confirmation. Final-sale, custom and personalized products are excluded, unless faulty or damaged.

Does Abercrombie offer free shipping?

Not on every order. Standard delivery takes 4-9 business days, and during the October event standard shipping was free on orders over $99 within the US. Two-day and next-day options cost extra. Same-day delivery is offered in some areas but excludes fragrance and some other items.
