Is Happiest Baby Worth It? 2026 Review
Rent the SNOO, do not buy it. A six-month rental with fees costs about $578 against $1,995 to own, and the cheap Sleepea swaddle is the other buy worth making from Happiest Baby.
We may earn a commission if you buy through our links, once we join a brand's program. It never changes a call. How that works.
- Skip the upgrade
- Skip buying SNOO outright unless you are planning more babies. Owning costs $1,995 and app features go behind a subscription after nine free months.
- Best time to buy
- In October the SNOO 6-Month rental was $399 instead of $599 and add-ons like SNOObie and SNOObear were 25% off. Check whether your employer offers a free SNOO rental first.

Happiest Baby is the company behind pediatrician Harvey Karp’s SNOO, a motorized bassinet that rocks, plays white noise and clips a swaddle to the mattress so babies stay on their backs. The FDA granted it De Novo authorization for that back-sleeping claim, though Happiest Baby itself notes SNOO has not shown a reduction in SIDS. The rest of the shop is swaddles, sound machines and SNOO accessories.
The money question is SNOO, and the brand’s own price list answers it. Buying costs $1,995; renting starts at $159 a month, and the 6-Month Special was $399 in October. SNOO is meant for roughly the first six months, so for one baby renting wins easily. The catch is that rentals are not refundable if your baby hates it, and plenty of reviewers say theirs did.
The lineup, model by model
SNOO Smart Sleeper Rental
from $159 Basic, per month. 6-Month Special: $399, was $599. Plus $99.50 reconditioning and $79 return shipping upfront.
The same SNOO for six months at roughly a third of the purchase price, if the 6-Month Special is running.
Rentals arrive reconditioned, with a new mattress, cover, sheet and two new SNOO Sacks in small and medium, and the Premium app subscription runs for the rental plus a month. On the 6-Month Special the total is $399 plus $99.50 reconditioning and $79 return shipping, about $578 before tax. Six Basic months would come to roughly $1,133 with the same fees.
The risk is all on you. Those fees are non-refundable once the order starts processing, and the one-star reviews are dominated by renters whose babies screamed in it or who found the motion jerky, then learned there is no refund for an unused prepaid term. Keep the box: you need it to send SNOO back, and a replacement costs $49.95.
Upside
- About $578 for six months on the current special
- New mattress, sheet and sleep sacks included
- Premium app included for the rental plus a month
Downside
- No refund on prepaid months if your baby rejects it
- You must keep the original box to return it
The numbers
- 6-Month Special $399, listed down from $599
- Upfront fees $99.50 reconditioning, $79 return
- Included 2 new SNOO Sacks (S, M)
- Use until about 6 months or rolling

Sleepea 5-Second Baby Swaddle
$34.95 Same price in every size and print.
An organic cotton zip swaddle with inner arm bands and shoulder snaps for arms-out, and the cheapest way into Karp’s system.
Sleepea is a zip-up swaddle that Happiest Baby pitches as a five-second wrap, so you skip the blanket folding. A two-way zipper opens from the bottom for diaper changes, and snaps at the shoulders let one or both arms out when your baby starts working toward rolling. The fabric is GOTS-certified organic cotton with mesh panels for airflow. Every size costs the same, from Small at 5 to 12 pounds up to X-Large at 23 to 25.
It averaged 4.2 from 1,308 reviews when we read it. The one-star ones say the layers are a chore at 3am diaper changes, sizing ran off for some, and one buyer found it is not the sack that works in SNOO, which needs the SNOO Sack. Another got no price adjustment when it went 20% off days later, and one parent said the neck rode up over the baby’s mouth.
Upside
- Organic cotton with breathable mesh panels
- Shoulder snaps for an arms-out transition
- Two-way zipper for diaper changes
Downside
- Not compatible with SNOO; that needs the SNOO Sack
- Layers can be fiddly for night diaper changes
The numbers
- Sizes Small 5-12 lb to X-Large 23-25 lb
- Fabric GOTS organic cotton, mesh panels
- Arms-out shoulder snaps
- Price $34.95 in every size

SNOObie Smart Soother
$52.46 October sale price, 25% off the $69.95 list.
A rechargeable white noise machine and color nightlight with SNOO’s sounds, worth it at the sale price.
SNOObie packs 14 sounds, including SNOO’s own white noise tracks, into a small rechargeable unit with a nightlight in eight colors. It pairs with the Happiest Baby App for scheduled routines, so the light and sound can switch on and off at set times, and it is small enough to pack for trips to grandparents.
The reviews are thin: seven, averaging 3.4. Two are sharp. One SNOO graduate says the app only runs scheduled routines, so you cannot start shushing from your phone when the baby cries. Another says volume is set only by a dial on the device, which crackles when touched. One owner’s light failed after a day. At $52.46 it is fair value; at $69.95 a simpler sound machine does most of this.
Upside
- Sound machine and color nightlight in one
- Rechargeable and portable
Downside
- App runs routines only; no remote start or volume
- Only seven reviews, averaging 3.4
The numbers
- Sounds 14, including SNOO tracks
- Nightlight 8 colors
- App scheduled routines
- Power rechargeable

SNOO Smart Sleeper Bassinet
$1,995 No discount on the purchase in October, unlike the rental.
The full SNOO with three sleep sacks, worth owning only if siblings will use it and you have space to store it.
Buying gets you the bassinet, mattress, sheet and three SNOO Sacks in small, medium and large, nine months of the Premium app and a one-year limited warranty. It responds to crying by stepping up through levels of motion and sound, and is meant for babies up to about six months or until they roll. Happiest Baby itself suggests buying if you hope to pass SNOO to siblings.
The low reviews explain the wait. Several owners call the motion jerky enough to worry them, others report shutdowns and clip errors, and one says a new SNOO arrived used and dirty. On Trustpilot, owners are angriest that Weaning Mode and motion locking now sit behind a paid app subscription once the free months end. A return within 30 days costs $199 restocking plus $79 shipping.
Upside
- Three sleep sack sizes included
- Can be reused for later siblings
Downside
- Weaning Mode and motion lock need a paid subscription later
- $278 in fees to return within 30 days
The numbers
- Included 3 SNOO Sacks (S, M, L), sheet, mattress
- Response baseline plus 4 sound levels
- Use until about 6 months or rolling
- Warranty 1 year, soft goods excluded

SNOObear 3-in-1 White Noise Lovey
$44.96 October sale price, 25% off the $59.95 list.
A plush bear with a removable speaker that plays SNOO sounds and restarts when it hears fussing, with a battery habit.
SNOObear hides a removable speaker in a plush or woolly bear. It plays SNOO’s white noise plus three rhythms for 30 or 60 minutes, then listens for three more hours and starts again if it hears fussing. A strap hangs it on a stroller or car seat, and it runs on two AA batteries, included. Happiest Baby warns never to leave it in a crib or bassinet with a baby under one year.
That warning undercuts the lovey idea, and the reviews, averaging 3.6 from 112, add more. Owners complain of batteries lasting days, buttons that are hard to decode, and a speaker that switches on whenever the bear is grabbed. One says fuzz comes off the plush. A phone playing the same sounds does most of what it does.
Upside
- Plays SNOO sounds and restarts on fussing
- Removable speaker and stroller strap
Downside
- Reports of batteries draining in days
- Not for use in a crib with babies under one
The numbers
- Timer 30 or 60 minutes, then listens 3 hours
- Sounds SNOO tracks plus 3 rhythms
- Power 2 AA batteries, included
- Textures plush or woolly

The review pile, summarized
On happiestbaby.com, SNOO’s Judge.me reviews averaged 4.0 from 3,579 when we read them, with rentals and purchases pooled. Sorted lowest first, the one-star reviews fall into three camps: babies who hated the motion or swaddle, parents worried by jerky rocking, and units with dead sound or motion where support asked for video after video. Several renters were angry there was no refund for unused months.
Trustpilot rates happiestbaby.com 1.6 out of 5, “Bad”. Its most recent reviews center on Premium app features such as Weaning Mode moving behind a subscription, which reviewers price at around $20 a month; we could not confirm that figure on the site. A cluster from March 2025 protests reports that the company asked a content creator to return a SNOO it had sent her after her baby died. The Sleepea swaddle fares better, at 4.2 from 1,308 on-site reviews.

SNOO helps many families sleep, but a $199 restocking fee, non-refundable rentals, app features behind a subscription and a 1.6 Trustpilot rating pull the score well down.
Rivals worth a look
- Halo. Choose it instead if you want a bedside bassinet without motorized rocking, an app or a subscription.
- Hatch. Choose it instead if a phone-controlled sound machine and nightlight is all you need.
- Love to Dream. Choose it instead if your baby fights arms-down swaddles and sleeps better with hands up.
FAQ
Is it cheaper to rent or buy a SNOO?
For one baby, renting. On the 6-Month Special running in October, six months cost $399 plus $99.50 reconditioning and $79 return shipping, about $578 before tax. Paying the $159 Basic rate for six months would total roughly $1,133 with the same fees. Buying is $1,995, and Happiest Baby itself suggests it mainly for families who expect to reuse SNOO for siblings and can store it.
Can I get a SNOO for free?
Possibly. Happiest Baby says thousands of parents get a free six-month SNOO rental as an employer wellness benefit, through more than 50 companies, and suggests asking HR to join its corporate rental program. SNOO purchases and rentals can also be paid with HSA or FSA funds through Truemed, after a short eligibility survey. Check both before paying the full price yourself.
What happens when the free app subscription ends?
Buyers get the Premium app free for nine months and renters for the rental plus one month. After that, SNOO still works with the free app features, but Premium settings need a paid subscription. Trustpilot reviewers say features like Weaning Mode and locking the motion level are among those behind the paywall, which matters most if you plan to reuse SNOO for a second baby.
